Smith tells Young to “be a man” and sign deal to fight him

Sam Smith

Boxer Sam Smith has told light heavyweight rival Kelvin Young to honour his word and sign a deal to fight him in November.

Smith, who trains in Swindon with Paddy Fitzpatrick, has already put pen to paper on a deal to headline Neilson Boxing’s next show in November and ideally wants Young to be the man in the opposite corner.

Both fought at York Hall on July 16, Smith claiming a stoppage success against David Sipos while Young was stopped by Jack Morris for the Southern Area title.

After the fight, Young revealed he would appeal the stoppage but told Your Sport Swindon that should that appeal be unsuccessful he wanted to fight Smith.

We believe Young’s appeal will fall on deaf ears at the British Boxing Board of Control and the former Penhill boxer has since admitted on social media that he the fight he really wants is against Smith.

Talking to Your Sport Swindon this morning, Smith told Young to “be a man and sign the paper to fight”.

November’s card will also feature Luke Watkins as chief support, although both he and Smith will likely fight in September too.

Watkins himself also claimed victory at York Hall beating Dmitrij Kalinovskij on points.
