Professional boxing promoter and manager Mark Neilson has been inducted into the esteemed Ex-Boxers Association Hall of Fame in the Promoter category.
Swindonian Mark, the son of former Swindon professional boxer Eddie Neilson, was honoured at a glittering ceremony in Cardiff for his significant contributions to the sport.
His promotional and management career is regarded as a shining example of dedication to the sport, following in the footsteps of his father, who fought legendary boxers Frank Bruno and Joe Bugner.
Mark has been a pivotal figure in the boxing world and is now one of the most prolific boxing promoters in the UK, having promoted numerous high-profile bouts and managing the careers of many rising stars in the industry.
From starting at Swindon’s Premier Club leisure centre to now selling out the iconic York Hall in London on a regular basis, Mark’s journey has seen him rise to be one of the UK’s top promoters, and he has promoter numerous titles including a IBO World Title earlier this year,
Mark paid tribute to his father, whose own remarkable career laid the foundation for Mark’s journey into the world of boxing promotion and management.
“I am incredibly honoured to be inducted into the Ex-Boxers Association Hall of Fame,” said Mark.
“Boxing has always been in my blood; I was in a gym from a six-year-old and fought numerous bouts as an amateur myself.
“Because of that, I understand boxing and more importantly boxers, this enables me to put on some of the best shows in the UK and look after the growing stable of talented boxers I manage, and to be recognised alongside so many legends of the sport is a true privilege.
“My father’s career inspired me from a young age, and this moment is as much a tribute to him as it is to the work I’ve done in boxing.”
Eddie Neilson said he was immensely proud of his son’s achievements and added: “Mark has dedicated his life to boxing, and it’s wonderful to see his hard work and passion for the sport being recognised at such a prestigious level.” Eddie remarked.
The Ex-Boxers Association Hall of Fame induction is reserved for those who have made an indelible impact on the sport, both inside and outside of the ring. Mark Neilson now joins the ranks of boxing’s elite, further cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s leading figures.
