FEATHERWEIGHT Lewis Roberts says activity is key if he is to continue to improve as he prepares to box this weekend.

Roberts (3-0), who is managed by Swindon Based promoter Mark Neilson, will feature on Neilson Boxing’s latest Fight Town show on Saturday 4th June at the MECA.

The 20-year-old turned professional at the end of last year and has been able to stay busy with three fights to date, with his most recent coming earlier this month in London at a charity event hosted by Hall of Fame promoter, Frank Warren.

In that fight, Roberts overcame Viktor Vezhlivtsev and stated it was a good experience as it was the first time he’s boxed outside of Swindon.

“The last fight was a good experience to get out of the town a little bit with no actual fans behind me a such,” he said.

“It was a bit strange not to have my supporters there because no one was really there for me apart from my mum, dad, coach and my manager.

“I put in a good performance and was in with a really tough guy who definitely came for the win, he brought the pressure which was nice for me to experience, it was another lesson learnt.

“He shocked me a little bit in the first round with how busy he was but then I settled and got into the swing of it.

“With another fight coming so soon after it’s picking up nicely, the next opponent will be another step up.”

Promoter and Manager, Neilson, says he was impressed with the display put on by the 20-year-old and that he is pleased with his progress to date.

“He looked very sharp, really composed and very controlled in his performance,” he added.

“It was a great opportunity for him to box with so many big names in the sport watching him and it was in London so it was a different environment.”
