NEILSON Boxing started the year with a bang after seeing their latest Fight Town show take place at MECA on Saturday night.

The sell-out crowd saw eight fights in total, with Bristol’s Aaron Sutton being crowned the new Southern Area champion in a comprehensive win over middleweight Danny Shannon, with Sutton stopping his opponent in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Gloucester’s Max Mudway picked up a brutal stoppage on his way to a first-round win against Thodoris Ritzakis, moving to 6-0 as a professional.

Jake Price opened proceedings with four rounds at lightweight, where the Neilson Boxing managed fighter came up against Lee Connolly with the latter taking the win on points.

Bristol’s Anton Haskins extended his record to 4-0 with a clinical display over four rounds at super-lightweight, he dropped his opponent in the first round on the way to a 40-34 victory.

It was a similar outing for Neilson Boxing’s Brad Ingram (2-0) as the Gloucester welterweight notched another win with a polished performance over four rounds.

Swindon featherweight Lewis Roberts dazzled in his win over Luke Fash, the unbeaten prospect now has two wins to his name after making his debut last year.

Despite only making his debut last year, Calne’s ambitious Connor Gray opted to fight over six rounds at the weekend and made light work of the step up as he dropped his opponent in the opening round, before seeing out a solid win on the cards, which read 60-53 to the Wiltshire prospect.

Next up was Oxford’s Brad Townsend who returned from injury after breaking a rib at the back end of last year, he moved to 9-0 with a dominant showing over Evgenii Vazem.

Operations Manager at Neilson Boxing, Kyle Neilson said: “It was a cracking night of boxing and a great way to start Neilson Boxing off in 2022 in what is set to be a record-breaking year for us.

“From a Neilson Boxing point of view, it was a mixed bag as Jake (Price) didn’t get the nod against Connolly, but Brad Ingram boxed beautifully to move to 2-0 as a professional.

“Lewis (Roberts) raised the roof with his ring walk and dominated every round, so we were really pleased with that.

“Now we move on to April the 1st at York Hall where we have Jack McGann and John Brennan fighting in an English title final eliminator.”
