HEREFORD fighter Jake Price says he has his sights set on victory when he returns to the ring in Swindon.

Price, who is trained by Gloucester’s Jon Pitman, endured a tough start to life in the professional ranks when he claimed a draw in his opening bout last year.

However, on Saturday 26th March, the unbeaten prospect has a chance to collect his first victory when he fights on Neilson Boxing’s Fight Town show in Swindon.

Alongside Price will be a host of talent from the South West, including stablemate Max Mudway and Bristol’s Aaron Sutton who will be challenging for the vacant middleweight Southern Area title.

Revisiting his debut, where he came up against Dean Evans, Price says a tough opening bout could serve him well in the future.

“Making my debut was definitely a dream come true, I didn’t get the result that I wanted but it was a good experience,” he said.

“I wasn’t that nervous about it because I knew where I was both physically and mentally before the fight.

“I’ve got aspirations of fighting for the Area Title in the next year or two, so I think I needed something to shock my system because I don’t expect an easy ride if I’m going to do that.”

After signing with manager Mark Neilson last year, the 21-year-old already has four fights pencilled in this year.

The first of which sees him return to MECA in Swindon, where he will come up against Lee Connelly over four rounds.

Ahead of a busy year, the Hereford lightweight also said he is looking for local support to help sponsor his career in the ring.

“I’m not a big ticket seller, so any support from sponsors will make a huge difference,” he added.

“If people do sponsor me they’ll be sponsoring someone who is ambitious and wants to win titles.

“I just want to win titles and better myself. I always say that in this journey, if I can win a couple of titles then when I’m on my death bed I can look back and say I did alright.

“My greatest fear is getting to my older years and thinking I could have done better.”
