Wiltshire’s Johnny Ward looking to keep up recent momentum in the capital

Wiltshire’s Johnny Ward looking to keep up recent momentum in the capital

SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT Johnny Ward says he still feels the need to make up for lost time despite fighting twice in a matter of months.

Ward, from Chippenham, is set to step into the ring on Saturday 5th November at London’s York Hall on Neilson Boxing’s latest instalment of their Fight Town series.

The unbeaten prospect’s last bout was back in September where he dispatched his opponent in the opening round and talking ahead of next week’s contest, the Wiltshire fighter says he still would have liked to have been a little further on in his career.

“I do feel like the activity is doing me good but I do still feel like I’m three years behind where I should be,” said Ward.

“Last week I was at iBox Gym in London and I was sparring Danny Dingum, I was there with Dennis McCann and Alfie Sharp and they’re all fighting for European titles and things like that.

“I’m not saying I’m better than any of them but I don’t feel out of place with any of them at all even though I’m only 4-0.

“This boxing game is hard. It’s good for people to finally be able to see what I can do now and its good training with a purpose.”

Following his last victory, Ward laid down a challenge to the Super-middleweight Southern Area champion, William Webber.

However, despite trying to secure that content, Ward, who is signed to Swindon based Neilson Boxing said he wasn’t keen on waiting for that fight to come to fruition but hopes it is something he can set his sights on for 2023.

“He (Webber) never responded to any to any of that chat. I’ve done a bit of research on him and he’s not a bad fighter,” he added.

“I wanted to fight again straight away after winning my last one so it wasn’t something that was going to happen quick enough for me.

“My manager Mark (Neilson) said it was something we could try and make in the new year. If I get the fight I get it, and if I don’t, I don’t I’m not looking past anyone but hopefully we can do it.”
